When Mick Boogie came to Indianapolis this Summer, one of my partners (Pat) got the chance to go see him spin at one of the premier clubs downtown.  The second he left the show, he texted me and said, "Mick Boogie is the best I've ever heard live.  Hands down."

At the time, Talent of the Week wasn't even a part of this website so when we decided to start this weekly feature I told Pat to do whatever he had to do to get an interview with Mick Boogie.

I sent Pat the interview questions early the next morning.  Later that night, I had a complete interview with one of my favorite DJ's transcribed and ready to post.

It was that simple.

I was blown away because usually getting in touch entertainers can be difficult, especially an entrepreneur of this caliber.  It is confusing to me that most generic local rappers give me the run-around for a simple interview, but Mick-fucking-Boogie made this happen the same night!

Think about that for a second.

I can't say that I know Mick personally but I can say that when you carry yourself with a great, humble, hard-working attitude, like he does,  only positive results will come.

His clients are your favorite rappers, singers, movie stars and companies. His specialty is putting on energetic live performances and hosting unreal mixtapes.

Get to know Mick a little better in this short Q&A below.

Q&A with Mick Boogie

Name?
Mick Boogie

Hometown?
Poland, OH but now Brooklyn, NY.

When did your career in music start?
When I started playing piano and drums in elementary school...

So far, what has been the proudest moment of your career?
I can't really say.  Every year something happens to makes me revise that.  I'd say right now, it's a three-way tie between traveling the world multiple times to do what I love, moving to NYC & being successful and doing mixtapes with the guy who inspired me to DJ (Jazzy Jeff).

How do you feel you differ from the rest of the music industry?
I'm creative, I'm about my business and I'm also ethical.  3 traits rarely combined.

What is your biggest inspiration to follow, and keep following, your dreams in music?
The fact that my wife and I will have kids someday and I want to provide an awesome life for them.

Did you ever have a “mentor” for your career?  If yes, who? What did they do to benefit your career?
Not officially.  [But] more esoterically...  Jazzy Jeff inspired me to become a DJ, and is an awesome friend/advisor now, which is amazing.   Also, my wife helps make every decision I make [at least the big ones].  She is usually 100% on point.

If you could collab with anyone, who would it be and why?
The Red Hot Chili Peppers.  My favorite band.

Fill in the blank, I will be satisfied with my career when I ____________?
I'll never be able to answer that because I keep evolving.

Who are your top 5 musicians, dead or alive?
Jay-Z.
Miles Davis.
Eric Clapton.
Gershwin.
Sade.

What is ONE thing you want our readers to know about you, as a person or a professional, that they might not already know?
I have two cats who are awesome, but one pisses on the floor too much and the other eats way too much food.
